Eyes of Freedom

The Eyes of Freedom Memorial has been criss-crossing America for 10 years, but has never been to Texas...until now. It has been viewed by astronauts, presidents and tens of thousands of citizens from every walk of life, in 32 states, mainly because it offers a glimpse into the lives of the young men fighting, sacrificing and paying the ultimate price. More importantly, the Memorial brings communities together in a common dialogue to help heal the hidden wounds of war.

Thanks to the generous support of the Oliver Dewey Mayor Foundation, Grayson College and the GC Veteran Student Association will be the first Texas "hosts" for the EYES OF FREEDOM. The memorial will be open to the public for viewing beginning 10 amThursday, September 27 and ending 3 pm, Saturday, September 29, 2018. There will be no charge for admission.

You are invited to attend the EYES OF FREEDOM opening ceremony on Thursday Sept. 27. This will be a formal one hour program to be held at the Grayson College Cruce Stark Auditorium beginning at 10 am and ending 11 am. The official opening of the exhibit will immediately follow. SGT. Mike Strahle will present the history of the Lima Company in which he served and share the story of the veterans who gave the ultimate sacrifice to their country.

On Saturday Sept. 29, 2018 the closing ceremony will take place at 3 pm. The Memorial closing will be conducted as a component of the Veteran Expo also being held at Grayson College on Saturday, Sept, 29.

You may also want to note that the Eyes of Freedom will be arriving at the Texas/Oklahoma visitor center on Sept. 26 at 3 pm to be escorted to the Grayson College campus. The big truck should be pulling into the Grayson College campus about 3:30 pm and we plan to give them a HUGE Texas Welcome. As more details are finalized we will be happy to share them with you so that you can help promote the schedule of events with others and perhaps participate in its arrival ceremony.

Please feel free to call Tommy Ellis, Project Coordinator, Grayson College Center of Excellence for Veteran Student Success at 903-415-2632 or email ellist@grayson.edu for more information.
